Make a Difference

This event and website is not about me. It’s about raising awareness of the condition known as the cavernoma and leukaemia and helping those who suffer from cavernoma’s, cavernous angioma’s, cavernous haemangioma’s, cerebral cavernous malformations or leukaemia.

I have to have my head shaved for this surgery; I don’t have a choice. But rather than sit at home, do it in private and get miserable about it, I thought I would make a public show of it, get as many people out to join in, have a fun night and at the same time raise awareness and money for people who are not so fortunate as myself and suffer from the same condition or worse versions of it, and children who suffer from Leukaemia.

So, why head shaving specifically? Hair is one of the most personal things a person has; it’s on us all the time, it can change our looks dramatically, and its often used as a social or status symbol. Anyone with Leukaemia or any form of cancer is not so fortunate. Anyone who has not been affected by cancer or considered brain surgery react most to the idea of losing their hair. Similarly, anyone not so affected when seeing anyone without hair often presumes that they have cancer, alopecia, or maybe even a member of the BNP. Whatever their misconception, that person is unlikely to be attracted to the image of a bald person. I want to change that reaction; I want people to think again if they see someone who is bald, and encourage them to be better informed of the conditions those people may suffer from and to maybe give to a charity such as the Cavernoma Alliance and CHILDREN with LEUKAEMIA who are helping those so affected and progressing medical research in these medical disciplines.

...And, I have to admit that by getting all my friends round me to support or to shave their heads with me, will make it a lot easier for me!
